THE WONDERS OF AIGUABLAVA

Visiting the beauties of Spain

When you go to Spain, you have the chance to visit a lot of wonderful places, as Spain is one of the most visited and most beautiful countries in the world. A very special place for tourists is the Parador Aiguablava. The Parador is situated in a small heaven on earth, a place that those who love water and the sea consider to be among the most amazing places they’ve ever seen. You will also fall in love with it once you see it: the views are breathtaking. The outstanding beauty of the Parador, which is a four stars one, comes from the fact that it occupies a peninsula all alone, a small piece of land almost completely surrounded by the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean, all covered with pine trees. The peninsula is located somewhere along the Costa Brava, one of the most beautiful coasts in Spain by essence; its beauty is pure and simple and it gives a special feeling to whoever finds himself in the middle of it. It seems like time has stopped over the Parador and over the entire region, where you    will find plenty of small but cozy traditional villages.

The Parador Aiguablava

If you choose the Parador for accommodation, you will be stunned by the amazing views that open in front of your eyes from any window. The conditions are among the best: you have a swimming pool, gym, even a sauna; the restaurant of the Parador offers very fresh food and tourists say that the seafood dishes in which it specializes are divine. The internet connection is available in the game room and the beach is just a few steps away; sports such as diving or canoeing, horse riding and trekking are at your disposal at any time, so there is no possibility for you to get bored in Aiguablava.

Day trips

Most of the tourists who come to Parador Aiguablava usually stay for a few days; this is why they are very interested in day trips. A wonderful day trip is the one to Pals and Peratallada, two old, medieval villages where some of the oldest Spanish settlements were preserved. An interesting attraction is the “Dali Triangle”, three monuments which have connections with the great Dali: the Castell de Pubol, a mansion on which he left his fingerprints, Cadaques, a place where he lived, and the Dali Theatre. Visit Aiguablava and you will love it.

Ronda is a lovely place where tourists can admire the breathtaking views surrounding the town, and Almeria is extremely important for the Moorish architecture, the place where the beautiful white houses can be admired. As you can see, Andalusia is really a magnificent region in Spain; however, the cities, the monuments and the views are not the only attractions of Andalusia. Tourists come here attracted by the smells and the flavors of the traditional dishes cooked in Andalusia; among them, try the fried cuisine which uses olive oil, the dishes which use fish and seafood and the delicious desserts, such as the wine doughnuts and torrijas. TOP NIGHTLIFE ATTRACTIONS IN TENERIFE

Enjoying a holiday

When you decide to go on a holiday, you choose the destination according to your preferences and desires; when the destination does not meet your expectations, the holiday is compromised. This will not happen if you choose the sunny Tenerife in Spain as your destination. Tenerife is the place where you will find a lot of warm sunshine and interesting places to keep you entertained. Although it has a reputation for being the partying island, Tenerife is also a good resort for those who have families and children. You will agree with me when you find out the fact that the nightlife is divided into many sections, out of which you can choose the one that best fits you.

Having fun with your family

If you travel with your family, it does not mean that entertainment is banned. The nightlife for young families with children is very rewarding. You can spend a nice evening in Los Cristianos, where the Cheers Bar organizes theme nights and serves tasty home cooked meals which children love. If you choose Las Americans, you can offer your dear ones a fun filled night of cabaret in Wigan Pier Bar; a lot of quizzes and games as well as karaoke are ready to entertain the whole family, so you will have a very good time here.

Evenings for romantic couples

Tenerife is the place to take your other half, as you can spend some unforgettable moments on this Spanish island. Your night can begin with a romantic walk along the beach, as no less than 2 kilometers of boardwalk are waiting for you to watch the sunset and the calm water. Along the esplanade, romantic restaurants such as Timon have their doors open which serve delicious seafood dishes in a setting which seems to be unreal. If you really want something special, take your loved one to Casa Pana where you can dine surrounded by grape vines.

The young clubbers

If you are young and love going to clubs, Tenerife is perfect. The best place for you is Veronica, where you will find only clubs on a surface of 200 meters. The clubs are open until 5 a.m. and offer you a night full of good drinks and dancing.

A little bit of culture and tradition

Santa Cruz and Puerto de la Cruz are loyal to the pure Spanish tradition; if you go there, you will have the chance to taste the famous tapas and take part in one of the popular carnivals.

Tranquility in Puerto Pollensa

A beautiful holiday resort

When people hear the word “holiday,” all their thoughts fly to sunny beaches, cocktails and clear waters. This is the reason why so many people choose Spain for their holiday destination: they are absolutely sure that they will find everything here they dreamt of. Puerto Pollensa stays among the most popular holiday destinations in Spain, as the small and tranquil fishing port offers tourists the opportunity to have a very relaxing time. Puerto Pollensa is patiently waiting for its tourists in the Balearic Island of Mallorca, on its northwestern coast. Being guarded by the Mountains of Cap Formentor and Sierra de Tamuntana, not only does it enjoy a perfect climate all year long, but also some spectacular views.

Calm and tranquility

Puerto Pollensa is very special among the other towns in Mallorca due to the fact that the locals have succeeded in maintaining its traditional spirit, so its charm has not been spoiled by development. The history of the town as a holiday resort dates back to the 1920s, when the British started to build holiday homes here, far from the capricious weather of their country. More tourists were attracted starting with the 1950s, when hotels appeared in Puerto Pollensa. Very close to Puerto Pollensa you’ll find an ancient settlement: Pollensa. The town was built by the Romans in order to have a defense point against the attacks coming from pirates. Tourists can still visit the Roman Bridge or Pont Roma, connecting the two settlements. The old town attracts tourists with its sightseeing points; the Calvari Church is an important sightseeing monument which still has the old wooden cross guarding it. It now functions as the Town Hall and, although you’ll have to climb no less than 365 steps to get to it, the monument waiting for you at the top is spectacular. The Municipal Museum is hosted by an old Dominican Convent and it displays a few collections of objects dating back to the pre-Roman era. If you want to enjoy a good coffee or taste the famous tapas, visit the Plaza Mayor and you’ll find plenty of coffee shops and bars.

Sun and water

It is obvious that you must go to the beach and visit the harbor while in Puerto Pollensa. Most of the beaches have been awarded the European Blue Flag, while the harbor offers colorful and luxurious shows every day: the yachts that continuously come and go.

Visit Caleta De Fuste

A holiday in Spain

Spain is a beautiful country for a holiday, because it has many interesting places to offer. Caleta de Fuste is one of these interesting places, making it a wonderful holiday destination. Caleta de Fuste is situated on the eastern coastline of the Fuerteventura Island, where it enjoys a very warm and welcoming climate all year long. The resort had developed considerably in the last few years, with a luxurious hotel and a golf course among its newest acquisitions. The resort is a very peaceful one, so it is extremely popular among young couples and families with small children who come here from all over Europe. The beach is guarded by a large bay. With some of the finest sands imported from the warmest places on earth, this beach is great for children, because the water is shallow.

Having fun in Caleta de Fuste

For the little ones, Caleta de Fuste has a lot of playgrounds with nice trampolines and small rides which are not dangerous; for the parents, the entertaining activities are also diverse. Most of the tourists are impressed by the Old Tower that watches over the harbor; many of them take long walks along the harbor, because the views of the boats coming and going are absolutely breathtaking. If the idea attracts you, you can go on a boat tour to watch the whales; this is one of the few places in Europe where you can do this. If you love water, Caleta de Fuste offers you the possibility to practice surfing or scuba diving, even though you may be a beginner. When you want to breathe some fresh air, take a walk along the path which leads you to Nuevo Horizonte. When you get there, you can have a nice meal in one of the restaurants serving traditional dishes.

Other types of activities

The nightlife is not very active in Caleta de Fuste, but you can spend a few pleasant hours in one of the bars and pubs of the resort; you can listen to music or taste the famous tapas in the company of your loved ones. For a delicious seafood meal, go to Frasquita restaurant; the views over the ocean are amazing from its windows. Caleta de Fuste has nice shopping centers from which you can buy souvenirs for those back home. Visit Fuengirola Zoo

Special places, special holidays

If you choose Andalusia and Costa del Sol as your holiday destination, make sure that you don’t miss the Fuengirola Zoo. The zoo patiently waits for its visitors in the center of the town, where the employers have beautifully managed to recreate the natural habitat of hundreds of endangered species. It is children who especially love this place, but adults learn to love it too once they cross the zoo’s doorstep.

How the zoo appeared

The history of the Fuengirola Zoo starts in the 1970s, when it was just an ordinary zoo, with a lot of necessities. Once 1998 came, Rain Forest took the control of the zoo and decided to transform it into just one ecosystem, a subtropical one, as the area covered by the zoo didn’t permit a higher number of ecosystems. Their result is amazing: the natural habitat of hundreds of species from Madagascar, Equatorial Africa and even Southeastern Asia was so well recreated that they even have caves, waterfalls and valleys.

Beautiful species

The zoo hosts a lot of endangered species and the employers are very dedicated to their work of helping these endangered species to survive. A great work has been done with the chimpanzees. Back in the 1970s, when the conditions in the zoo were not some of the best, chimpanzees had a problem breeding successfully. Now that the conditions in the zoo are so close to those of their natural habitat, many baby chimpanzees were born, for the excitement of children and their parents who absolutely adore them. However, not only do chimpanzees breed successfully, but also species from Madagascar like lemurs, the tigers from Sumatra and the orangutans.

Inside the zoo

When you take your first step into the zoo, someone will take a picture of you, so that you have it as a memory. You will immediately feel like you're inside an Asian or an African tropical rainforest: the noises, the sounds, the trees, and the animals will make you really feel like you are in the middle of nature. You’ll have the chance to see some amazing animals and birds, such as the Sumatran tiger, the friendly lemurs, the funny Orangutans who recently had a baby, Nile crocodiles and flamingos. If you visit the zoo in the warm evenings of July or August, you can have a delicious African meal, accompanied by traditional music and dancing. Enjoy Fuengirola Zoo!

Visit Salobrena

A pleasant place for a holiday

Have you ever visited Spain? This country has an impressive touristic potential, there is practically no place that doesn’t have something interesting to see. Tourists from all over the world visit Spain for its beauty, for its culture and traditions and for the spectacular beaches. Granada is one of the favorite destinations for tourists and Salobrena is one of its resorts. Its location on the Costa Tropical gives it a warm climate all year long, perfect for holidays. Salobrena is a small town where the houses seem to cling right to the hillside, a town with a nice old quarter and a Moorish castle lying on the foothills. It is a very picturesque place, with its views of the coast and the Sierra Nevada mountain chain.

Attractions in Salobrena

The Castle seems to fascinate the tourists, because they all come to visit it. It dates back to the 12th century, but it was built on the remains if a fort dating back to the 10th century. The legend is probably the attraction for tourists: it is thought that the three daughters of the Moorish King Emir Mohammed were held there as prisoners. Today it just looks like the summer residence for the Moorish kings. In Salobrena, just like in many other places in Spain, the Moorish tradition mingles with the Christian one; proof of this is the Nuestra Senora del Rosario Church, situated under the Moorish Castle and dating back to the 16th century. The church was built on the remains of the Moorish Mosque. When you finish sightseeing, it is time to go to the beach.

El Penon, Playa de la Charca and La Guardia are the most popular beaches, attracting tourists with their grey sands and the possibility for snorkeling. El Penon is also a restaurant situated very close to the beach where tourists go for the cheap, but delicious seafood dishes. Another important and popular restaurant is Restaurante Tropical; the house specialty here is steak, served with different types of sauces.

Party time

Many tourists choose Salobrena for the fiestas held here. For example, in July you can take part in the Virgen Del Carmen procession; after the statue of the Virgin is carried through the streets of the town, people put it into a boat and take it on a sailing procession. You should visit this place, because you will definitely like it!

If you choose to spend your vacation here, you should know that it is advisable to stay in a rented villa or apartment. A Dream holiday in Ronda

Incredible places in Spain

Can you imagine a city situated in the middle of a canyon, completely surrounded by spectacular mountain scenery? Well, this is Ronda, an incredible location in Spain and a great destination for a holiday. The distance between Ronda and Marbella is just 60 kilometres and the route will take you through narrow streets guarded by the mountains with a breathtaking landscape that cannot fail to impress anyone who is fond of nature and the great outdoors.

Attractions in Ronda

Ronda hosts one of the few bullrings in Spain that is constructed entirely from stone, together with many historic monuments, some dating back to the Moorish occupation of not only this city but indeed most other regions of Spain. Visit the beautiful Arabian baths and palaces, built during this period, and discover the sheer architectural genius of the Moors. Learn about the development of Ronda from the pre-historic cave paintings; visit the old part of the city where there is a Roman amphitheatre, a spectacular monument that has managed to survive throughout the centuries and is extremely well preserved up to the present day. Adding these monuments to your sightseeing list will not disappoint.

Ronda is surrounded by interesting and pretty villages that have struggled to keep the traditional spirit of Spain alive. Go on daily trips to some of them in order to experience the fantastic customs and traditions of the country; you are guaranteed a wonderful time. Among the most beautiful is Hoya de Malaga, a village surrounded by a green valley and high mountain peaks which offer spectacular views. Pizzara is the village that hosts an impressive collection of artisan objects typical of the Andalusia region, as well as rustic furniture dating back to the 18th century.

Many famous writers and celebrities have found their inspiration in Ronda including Ernest Hemingway, George Eliot and Orson Welles all of whom visited the area frequently, particularly the old quarter of the town.

The best shopping can be found in Calle Espinel where you can buy anything from clothes, shoes, souvenirs to groceries and fine wines. This is the main shopping area in Ronda and all the locals make their purchases there.

When you have finished your sightseeing, go back to the city and visit the centre of Ronda where you will find a lively picturesque square with several bars, pubs and restaurants serving famous Spanish tapas to accompany your drink; enjoy the best of Spanish cuisine with a reasonably priced menu of the day or choose from the a la carte menu in the evening, relaxing in the general ambience of this amazing city.

CADIZ: the silver jewel

Wonderful places in Spain

You are probably aware that Spain is a very beautiful country and you’ve heard so much about it, that you are planning to visit it. You made the right choice, because the experience you are going to have in Spain is unbelievable. Since you want your holiday to be perfect, I recommend Cadiz. Everything is spectacular in Cadiz and is an ideal location for your holiday.

The waters of the Atlantic Ocean which wash over its shores are so silver, that the city is also known as the silver cup; and indeed, its beauty really makes it look like a silver jewel. When you arrive you will be welcomed by the carnival atmosphere which is permanently present in the city. The inhabitants are terrific people, always happy and ready to receive guests, so you will have a wonderful time in Cadiz.

The history of Cadiz

The history of the city spans centuries and is very interesting. The Phoenicians founded the city, giving it the name of “Gadir”, which in English means “the fortified city”. Cadiz was the most important city within The Tartessos kingdom. Hannibal’s campaign came to an end when the Carthaginians arrived however, when the Romans conquered Cadiz it flourished and many of the monuments that can be seen all over the province date back to the successful Roman Era.

Roman Sightseeing points

The Romans helped the city to develop and possibly played the most important role in its history by building aqueducts, an amphitheatre important for social and cultural activities together with many other outstanding buildings. The Cadiz Museum is a great place to learn about the interesting archaeological past of the city; the art and the ethnography have special dedicated sections. The Roman Theatre is an exquisite example if you are interested in how the city looked in the 1st century BC. When it was first built, it was the largest theatre Spain had. The Aqueduct is incredible; it shows you how the city received water from 70 kilometers away, while the Roman Factory which produced salted fish shows you how well the city was developing during that time. Visit the city and you will fall in love with it.

The province of Cadiz has a total of 5 National Parks, the largest being Los Alcornocales.  There are several caves to explore in the park with Neolithic cave paintings. You can also participate in a variety of activities including canoeing and abseiling. A day trip to this park is awe inspiring and will be a memorable part of your holiday in this impressive Spanish province.

The monastery has always been a popular attraction for tourists. Dedicated to St. John, there is an enormous rock hanging over it. In Muslim times, it was visited by pilgrims searching for the Roman chalice known as the Holy Grail. The chalice was exhibited by the monks who lived and worked at the monastery.

A fun holiday in Mallorca

The attractions of Spain

The millions of tourists who visit Spain every single year do it for a reason: some are attracted by the beauty of the landscapes and by their diversity; others are impressed by the architectural styles, the modern, cosmopolitan, even futuristic cities, by the traditional villages, the customs and traditions of the country, the dangerous bullfighting, the passionate flamenco dancing or the unspoilt nature reserves. Some visit Spain just because they like the Spanish coast and its beaches to the Mediterranean Sea, always covered with delicate sands. The Spanish coasts enjoy almost 300 days of sun every year, so it is clear why tourists love visiting them. The Spanish islands are also among the favourites; Mallorca is probably one of the most beautiful and the most popular of them. Mallorca is a big attraction for tourists not only because its beaches have all been designated the European Blue Flag, but also because the island is very lively and has a very active nightlife.

Lots of fun in Mallorca

Mallorca has a very wide range of restaurants, bars and pubs. All the bars serve the tasty Spanish tapas together with the drinks you order, so enter one of them in order to taste this traditional dish. All the restaurants, bars and pubs have long working hours especially in the summer, when the peak season is at its highest level. Probably the most lively place in Mallorca is the beach known as Magaluf, a place where the British feel like home because the promenade is full of steak houses and bars which serve beer; the beach is usually full of people who only want to have a great time, young tourists who visit Spain in order to have a memorable seaside holiday. Most of the tourists start the evening, and later the night tour, with the historical centre, a place where not only food is great, but a place where the fashionable locals are very popular. If you want a more sophisticated atmosphere, choose the Paseo Maritimo, the only place in town where live jazz, swing and even blues shows are held in elegant    restaurants. The Plaza Gomila is a place that keeps the Spanish spirit alive, the place where the traditions and the customs are still held. Visit the wonderful Mallorca and I guarantee that your holiday will be a memorable one.

The architectural wonders of Barcelona

Loving Barcelona for its architecture

Barcelona is a city that millions of tourists visit and many are attracted by its architecture. The city has a little bit of everything from the old quarter mansions built in Gothic style with imposing churches to Modernista style, futuristic buildings that defied the architectural rules of the period. Some are beautifully weird; others remind us of past moments in the history of Spain but all of them warrant your attention, because there is something to learn from every single one of them.

An Architectural History

The Art Nouveau period in Catalan architecture, was not greatly appreciated in its primary years. This changed dramatically when Barcelona hosted the 1992 Olympic Games. Millions of tourists arrived in to Barcelona for the event and were absolutely overwhelmed with the beauty of the futuristic buildings, so Modernism was rediscovered and more than appreciated. There was an architectural boom similar to the one which took place in the Middle Ages and Antoni Gaudi, who until then was an unknown figure of Barcelona, became a real icon of the city. Born in 1852 in Reus, Gaudi obtained his degree in architecture in 1878 and from the start of his career it was clear that he would not be the same as his architectural peers. By using stone and colour his buildings were recognizable instantly for their vibrancy and unique design.

The Architectural Wonders

The wonders of Barcelona are countless. However, there are a few that you can’t miss as long as you want to see and feel the essence of the city. The most famous of all is the Sagrada Familia, Gaudi’s masterpiece, which receives thousands of tourists every day even though it is not finished. An exquisite example of Gothic architecture is the Santa Maria Mar Church and if you visit the Agbar Tower you will be stunned by its resemblance to a finger which points towards sky. Fantastic Modernista decorations are very well represented in the Santa Creu Hospital and the Palace dedicated to Catalan Music. The Santa Caterina Market, with its interesting undulating roof is also a great place to visit. La Pedrera is also the work of Antoni Gaudi, one which has a very futuristic aspect and which attracts tourists through its innovation. The Casa Batllo, which was renovated by the same great Antoni Gaudi, is actually a block. Even though the queue is immense, don’t give up, because the interior is so beautiful that you  will not want to miss it. Enjoy Barcelona and its architecture!

The beautiful Almeria

The History of a Beautiful Place

The history of Almeria is very long and disturbed, similar to the history of many cities in Spain. Founded by the Moors in 955 AD, its name translates to “Mirror of the Sea” and it certainly is that. The 11th century transformed Almeria into the most prosperous city in Andalusia economically and culturally; it was also the most important port in the Province, trading in silk and textiles. The nostalgia of that time can still be felt in the city today. There are many buildings that have survived the turbulent past and are now popular tourist attractions. Among the most popular is the ancient fortress of Alcabaza which is only surpassed in size by the Alhamabra in Granada. Ideally situated at the top of a hill, the Alcabaza guards the city whilst overlooking some of the most spectacular scenery in Spain. Surrounded by mountain chains and desert landscapes, the calm waters of the Mediterranean contrast the fortress beautifully.

The Chanca quarter is located right under the fortress and is a tourist’s paradise. There are cave houses to be explored and the colorful facades of the other houses represent the vibrancy and energy of their occupants, the Gitanos - gypsies. The 16th century Cathedral which has both Gothic and Renaissance elements is another interesting attraction. The Santiago Church will impress you with its Tower and its portal; the former was built in Romanesque style, whilst the latter has Renaissance features. If you are interested in the history of the city, you should take time to visit the Almeria Museum to view the prehistoric Moorish objects on display here. There are cave paintings depicting the Bronze Age which will give you a greater insight into the history of this great city. There is so much to do in this region that you will never be bored so explore at your leisure and enjoy the views.

An all year round warm climate makes Almeria a place that tourists adore but tourism is not the only activity in Almeria. A high percentage of the economy of the city comes from the cultivation and export of fruit and vegetables. As a tourist you will be able to buy some of the produce from roadside vendors or from the many farms in the area.  Being “the Garden of Spain” fresh produce is readily available to local restaurants so you are guaranteed healthy and appetizing culinary experiences wherever you choose to eat.

The Charming Seville

An amazing city

Seville is one of the most popular cities in Spain and a place that millions of tourists from all the corners of the world love. The Moors ruled over the city for no less than 800 years, so the atmosphere that surrounds Seville today is influenced by them. The climate, the fertile land and the beauty of the region attracted not only the Moors, but also the Carthaginians, Phoenicians and the Romans. Even the Bohemians fell in love with Seville, which is the city where the legendary Don Juan started his fight to conquer the hearts of women.

The main attractions in Seville

The Santa Cruz Barrio, a famous quarter in Seville, is probably the liveliest place in the city.  It is a very romantic place which once housed the Jews and the Moors where they lived together in peace and harmony. The quarter is packed with Moorish palaces, Renaissance buildings, lush gardens and refreshing parks throughout the summer. The Maria Luisa Park is very popular with tourists; its beauty cannot be described in words - a remarkable place full of buildings which present a very fine and delicate architectural style. For those tourists who are very religious Seville is a place that offers wonderful churches and monasteries, which are not only fantastic buildings to visit, but also peaceful places where you can put your thoughts in order.

Fun in Seville

The city is a very lively one, a place where the food is great, the bars are joyous and the people are very welcoming. The gourmets among you will have a wide range of delicious dishes to choose from.  Start your culinary excursion with Gazpacho soup, a cold soup which uses as main ingredients vegetables such as tomatoes, paprika, garlic, and cucumbers. The bars are another important attraction for the gourmets, because they all serve tasty tapas, a traditional dish which accompanies any type of drink. The nightlife is very animated in the Santa Cruz Barrio, as well as in the centre of the town. Visit these places in the evening and you will have a lot of fun. The fiestas are very much appreciated by tourists, because they are a perfect way to connect with everything that encompasses the essence of Spanish customs and traditions. Visit Seville during one of the many festivals that take place there and you will have a great time partying until 6 in the morning!

The Perfect Spanish Trip

Travelling to Spain

Have you chosen Spain as your holiday destination? Well, prepare for a once in a lifetime experience as Spain is a country full of surprises. You can choose from a sunny beach or a high mountain peak; a traditional, charming, white village or a cosmopolitan city; a relaxing day in one of the historical towns or a full of energy party in one of the islands which are renowned for their nightlife. Regardless of what you choose, when you travel to Spain you have to be well prepared so here are some tips.

The peak season

Don’t despair if the boss only gives you the free days you need for your holiday during the peak season. It is a fact, starting with June and finishing with September, Spain is packed with tourists but this doesn’t mean that you have to stress too much. There are a few places not too famous and not too popular, but as beautiful as the well known ones, where you can relax and have a wonderful time. Instead of choosing Ibiza for a seaside destination, go to Menorca or to the coast of Almeria. For a mountain destination, leave the Sierra Nevada for Aragon, Asturias or even the wonderful Cantabria.

Sport lovers

The active tourists, those who choose Spain because it offers them the chance to practice one of the sports they love, should be cautious about bringing their equipment over by air. For example; Air France charges a substantial amount of money for surf boards and bicycles. A better alternative would be to buy everything you need on your arrival in Spain and re sell it when your holiday is over or better still hire the equipment. Either way, there is every possibility that these two alternatives will be more cost effective than bringing your own.

Preparations needed for Spain

The majority of shops in Spain have a special timetable, unique in Europe. They open their doors at 9am and work until 2pm; some of them reopen at 4pm and others at 5pm and they remain open until 8pm or 9pm. This applies from Monday to Friday and then on Saturday the shops will only be open from 9am until 12 noon so if you need to shop on a Saturday get there early! The reason for the long lunch period is the treasured Spanish siesta. The Spanish main meal of the day is lunch and it is surprising how much food they can consume, especially when they have to go back to work afterwards. After they have eaten their lunch they have a nap to refresh themselves. There is also a unique schedule for restaurants. Lunch is usually served between 2pm and at the very latest 4pm. They will not reopen until 8pm so bear this in mind unless you want to be hungry for several hours. Take into account all these details and your holiday will be perfect.

The attractions of Costa DEL SOL

Spending time on Costa del Sol

When people think of the Costa del Sol, the first thing that comes into their minds is “beach”. Yes, the Costa del Sol is a wonderful place for a seaside destination, but you can do more on your holiday than just laying on a beach and bathing in the crystal clear waters. What people don’t know is that the Costa del Sol is a great destination for those who want to spend their holiday with their family and their children, because there are a lot of fun activities for the entire family. So, if you are interested in having a happy holiday with your family, go to Costa del Sol.

Main activities for a family

Places that your children will adore are the theme parks and Costa del Sol has an abundance of such parks. For example, Seville hosts the Isla Magica, an amusement park which has seven theme areas. Each area is actually inspired from a representative episode in the history of Spain during the 16th century. Tivoli World is another great place; you’ll find it in Benalmadena, waiting for you with lots of rides, water flumes and even with a town inspired from the Wild West. A great thing to do is to go in the bay of Gibraltar in order to watch the dolphins; there are not too many places in the world where you can do this, so take advantage of the opportunity. The Mini Hollywood in Almeria, where children can have fun in the Western Town is another amazing entertainment activity, so make sure you have it on your list. The Nerja Caves are a wonder of nature, so if you want to educate your children to respect nature, take them there; the lesson they will learn is priceless. If you want adrenaline activities, go to Mijas Hipodrome to watch the horse races or try the scuba diving experience in Nerja. If your family is adventurous, go to Andalucía and spend some wonderful days hiking in some of the highest and most beautiful mountains in Europe. If you like water parks, then you will have no trouble in finding one on the Costa del Sol. Choose the Aquatropic in Almunecar or the Aqua Velis, hosted by Torre del Mar and your fun is guaranteed. Go to Spain on your holiday and choose the Costa del Sol and you and your family will surely have a lot of fun.

The beauty of Madrid

It is said that even the laziest person has an adventurous heart. Once in a while who does not love to take a break from the regular routines of life and have some fun? And if your idea of fun is travelling and seeing new places then even better. Allow me to take the liberty to make a suggestion. Take a trip to Madrid, the capital of Spain. You will find more than just bull fighting and Spanish football. The city has much to offer.

Spain might be the home for many devoted Christians, but here in Spain you will find the most unconventional monument – a statue of Satan or Lucifer. The statue is located in the gardens of the Retiro Park and is set on top of a marble pillar that is placed in the middle of a fountain. The sculpture was inspired by John Milton’s Paradise Lost and depicts the moment when Lucifer was being banished from heaven. It is said that this is the only public monument of the fallen angel.

That is not the only famous sculptor in the city. The Fuente de Neptuno or the fountain of Neptune is another landmark worth visiting. The statue depicts Neptune the sea god in a conch shell chariot. The chariot is pulled by sea horses and the god of the sea is surrounded by a bunch of dolphins. The statue of the great sea god is holding his famous trident in one hand and in the other hand he is holding a coiled snake.

Art lovers should not miss a chance to visit the Prado museum, which is one of the greatest art galleries in the world. Where else would you find the fine works of all the great artists under one roof? Here you will find the works of Goya, Rubens, Raphael and Bosch. The museum also has the works of many other famous artists. Since the museum is gigantic and has a large number of artifacts, it can be overwhelming for the visitors. Thus it is better to have some artists in mind and focus on those. One of the main attractions of the gallery is a painting named “Las Meninas” by Velazquez. The painting shows Princess Margarita with two of her acquaintances along with the artist holding a paint brush.

These are just the tip of the ice-berg, which means there is much more to Madrid than this small article. If you want to know more than you would have to visit this beautiful city.

The Alcazaba in Malaga is of an overwhelming beauty; it hosts the Archaeological Museum, lush gardens and the Roman Theatre, so it is an important destination on the sightseeing list. However, the soups are probably the most famous dishes in Malaga; the Ajo Blanco which contains almonds and garlic is nourishment for your senses. In the evenings, there are a lot of things to do, because the nightlife in Malaga is important to locals as well as tourists. The Unique Adra

Spending time in a beautiful place

Adra is known as being the coastal town in Spain which attracts tourists due to its wonderful climate: the summers, as well as the winters, are warm and the temperatures are pleasant, not reaching levels which are hard to cope with. It is a place where tourists love to go because of the welcoming sun, the beautiful views and the relaxing and calm atmosphere that surrounds the entire city.

The history of Adra

Adra has an interesting history about how it appeared, similar to the history of so many places in Spain, because so many civilizations fought for them. After each civilization left the place it ruled for hundreds of years, its spirit and plenty of fingerprints were left behind, making Spain and all its corners such pleasant and interesting holiday destinations. The history of Adra starts in the 8th century BC, when the Phoenicians decided to found a city on the lands they had just discovered. The Phoenicians were followed by the Greeks, who transformed Adra into a very economic centre. The Greeks succeeded to make it flourish and made it a very attractive town due to its economical importance and its strategic location. This is the reason why it attracted the interest of the Carthaginians, as well as that of the Romans, who won it during the famous Punic Wars. Adra still preserves the historical sites that stand as proof of the interesting events of its past, sites which now represent major sightseeing points for the tourists who visit the town.

The attractions of Adra

The beaches in Adra are absolutely spectacular and most of them have been designated the European Blue Flag. The views that tourists enjoy when they go to the beach are overwhelming and extremely relaxing. The marine flora and fauna is very rich in the waters of Adra, making it a destination for those who like scuba diving and snorkelling. The marinas, as well as the fishing port, represent two main interest points in Adra. From the port, tourists can embark on one of the boats that offer trips along the coast or they can take walks along the promenade, enjoying the spectacular sunset. The cuisine is absolutely delicious, so Adra is also a perfect destination for gourmets; the fresh fish and the abundance of vegetables cultivated in the area are the perfect ingredients for tasty dishes. Enjoy!

A Trip into the past of Gibraltar

What should you know about Gibraltar?

Gibraltar is an amazing corner of Spain and it falls into the category of places that you have to visit at least once in your lifetime. Gibraltar is one of the earliest inhabited regions in Spain, so history plays an important role in its life. The Greeks and the Romans had a very strong say in everything that represents Gibraltar, so they are the reason it looks as it does today.

The history of a great place

It all started in 711, when a Berber army found a rock and decided to conquer it. This is how Gibraltar came to life, as the Moors found the place to be the perfect spot to build a castle. It is this castle that now looks towards Africa, right over the strait that separates the two continents. About six hundred years passed before the castle was conquered by the Christians, who put an end to Moorish rule; however, this was only for a very short period of time, because the Moors thought that Gibraltar was too important for them to lose, so they tried to re‐conquer it…and they succeeded.

The year 1462 is the last year of Moorish rule, as the Christians had the final word in the battle over Gibraltar. Very dark days came after 1462 for Gibraltar, as its history is very tumultuous during the War of the Spanish Succession. In 1713, Gibraltar was declared a possession of Great Britain under the Utrecht Treaty, but the Spaniards did not agree, so they fought during the 18th century to regain control; tourists can still visit the galleries which date back to this century. The beginning of the 19th century was a very prosperous period for Gibraltar, which became a very important trading center.

During the Second World War, the few inhabitants of Gibraltar had to leave their homes because the government decided that it represented the perfect location for the garrison. Even though the War ended in the fifth decade of the last century, it was only in the 90s that the garrison left Gibraltar. It is interesting that Gibraltar still has the title of military base when the largest part of its income is now the result of tourism. Great Britain and Spain continue to dispute ownership of the land, as they both see it as very important. It is an important, truly unique part of the world, so take advantage of one of your holidays and visit it.

Spain offers so many possibilities and in all its popular regions Club Villamar offers a carefully selected variety of villas calpe, rent villas in spain and villas pollensa are among the most beautiful destinations for your holidays. Holidays in Santiago De Compostela

Sightseeing in Santiago de Compostela

A spectacular holiday destination is Santiago de Compostela. The city is renowned for being the perfect place for tourists who are interested in spending their holiday visiting ancient sites and finding out details about the history and the cultural, artistic and architectural heritage of Spain. There are thousands of monuments to visit in Santiago, so prepare yourself with a lot of energy and thirst for knowledge, because you will need it!

First of all, visit the Obradoiro Square. The entire square looks like an open air museum, and is a beautiful representative of the history of the city and also the entire country. The Cathedral, situated in the center of the square, was built in 1075 during a flourishing period of the city and this grandeur is still visible today. Right in front of the Cathedral stands the Gelmirez Palace, which is an exquisite example of Romanesque architecture. For those who are attracted by the neoclassical style dating back to the 18th century, the Rajoy Palace is the right place for them. The Fonseca and San Jeronimo Monasteries, both dating back to the 15th century as well as the 19th century fountain known as the Caballos Fountain, situated exactly in the centre of the square, are some other gorgeous monuments to visit.

Other important attractions

The Obradoiro Square is not the only attraction of Santiago de Compostela. The beautiful Platerias Square is a magnet for tourists, who are amazed by the beauty of the artefacts made from silver, all of them handmade and available in the numerous crafts shops that are all over the square. Another interesting spot in the square is the 11th century monastery, one of the oldest monuments in the city. Children love sun and the warm waters, so a seaside family holiday in Majorca sounds like a good idea. Besides the fact that your kids will be happy, you have the chance to relax and get a nice tan, especially in July or August, when the temperatures can reach even 40 degrees Celsius. The water is cool, the beaches are covered with delicate sands, so this might be the perfect combination for a dream holiday. It is also the perfect recipe to help you forget about all those bad, hectic, agitated and stressful days you’ve had this year. Spanish Villas – Constructing Your Own is a Viable Option

If you are looking for cheap Spanish villas, you can have a large number of options available to choose from. The general image one has while looking for a villa is that of a standalone property which stands on its own private plot of land. Most of the villa also has its own private pool and a country or sea view.

If you are an individual who likes to have your own space away from the hustle-bustle of a city, then it is better that you search for suitably located Spanish villas for that feeling of space. You must be flexible with regards to the locations and province that you want to buy your villa. Villas are cheaper in provinces such as Jaen, Lugo and Almeria. In places such as Mallorca and Cadiz, the cost of the villas is comparatively more expensive.

If you have the wherewithal and the patience to pursue a completely different tactic then you can consider building a villa yourself. It is eminently doable and there are hundreds of investors who have invested in plots for constructing Spanish villas of their choice. Given the fact that the prices of land in both rural and urban areas are plummeting, the time is just about right to buy some land of your own and construct a villa that will match all your requirements.

There are some issues here that need to be addressed properly. In the earlier days people used to construct the building first and apply for permissions later. Those days are well and truly over. The laws are now stringent and inflexible. There is absolutely no scope for any adventurous streak. There are instances of people getting fined heavily and even villas and buildings being demolished because procedures were not followed.

Legal advice from experts in the field or from property lawyers can help you avoid legal tangles at a later stage. If you find the ideal location, a plot that suits your requirement in terms of size, view and convenience and complies with all legal requirements, then it is definitely a convenient option to construct your own villa instead of looking around for Spanish villas all around. The cost of constructing a villa must of course fit in your budget too.

Spanish Villas – Using It as an Investment

Some of the best Spanish villas can be seen in and around CostaCabana tucked away in the scenic region of Tossa de Mar. Most of these villas are located just a stroll away from the beach and come with a swimming pool, making it the perfect getaway for your dream vacations.

If you are considering having one of these villas as a holiday home for your future vacations in this lovely country, then it can turn out to be one of the most important decisions you have made in your life. The time is just right for you to get some real good deals. Over the past few years, the prices of Spanish villas for sale have risen rather sharply. People in their mad scramble to own a villa had made some really bad investments by paying way over the actual price. The correction is taking place now and prices of Spanish villas have tumbled over the past few months.

If you are the lucky ones who have saved enough money over the past few years in the hope that prices would crash, then now is your time to be the proud owner of one. When you eventually become the owner of a beautiful Spanish villa, there are a few things that you can consider doing to maximize your investment. The first option is to rent it out to a local or a visitor who needs a place to live for the duration that they are in Spain.

The other option is to keep it as a property rental to be used exclusively for holidays. Using it as a holiday villa will call for some additional expenses as guests would expect some extra features and amenities. Spanish villas with pools are extremely popular and can fetch good rentals. The amount that you spend on sprucing up the place can be easily recovered in a short period of time.

If you are able to get a long term renter, then you are sure to have a steady monthly income. If you just plan to let it out for vacations your income will be restricted to those few seasonal months but the returns are quite attractive as well. If you are thinking of combining the both plans, that, unfortunately would not be quite possible.
